Our weekly Community Board provides a short list of non-Davidson opportunities that might benefit your Young Scholar family, such as gifted programs, engaging events, and great resources for bright families. Here are the latest opportunities in this week's edition of the Community Board. You are always welcome to suggest a program or highlight other resources as well. For Young Scholar or Davidson-specific events, check out our Upcoming Events.

PROM² for Girls

PROM² for Girls is a completely free, online math competition designed to inspire and empower middle school girls who enjoy mathematics. The event is organized by the PRISMS Math Team, which includes several International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) gold medalists.

Winners will receive cash prizes of up to $500, and all U.S. participants will receive a PROM² T-shirt in recognition of their effort and achievement.

World Scholars Academy Summer Courses

World Scholars Academy offers live summer courses taught by expert instructors from top universities. In small classes of up to six students, they will receive personalized guidance as they explore future academic and career paths.

All programs are delivered 100% live, giving students direct access to world-class educators and a cohort of motivated peers from around the globe.

Challenge Success Student Advisory Council

The Challenge Success Student Advisory Council (SAC) is now accepting applications for the 2026–2027 school year.

As members of the Student Advisory Council, students collaborate with peers from across the country to help shape conversations about education and student life. This community of like-minded peers who care about education has the opportunity to:

  • Speak at conferences about student experiences
  • Curate social media content to amplify student voice
  • Organize or participate in webinars and workshops
  • Collaborate with schools and educators to improve student well-being
  • Write blog posts and/or create a podcast

Join families, educators, and community partners from across the San Francisco Bay Area for an engaging virtual fair that showcases schools and programs dedicated to supporting every kind of learner.

Families can visit up to three breakout sessions, each featuring a different school or service provider. Hear from school leaders, explore learning environments, and discover inclusive options for your child.

Interview with Brendan Mahan of ADHD Essentials” – The DadDHD Podcast

In this episode of the DadDHD podcast, hosts Shane Thrapp and Braden Young have a conversation about neurodivergent fatherhood with Brendan Mahan of ADHD Essentials. They talk about how their approaches of fatherhood shifted over time and offer strategies for navigating being neurodivergent and parenting a neurodivergent child. These strategies include setting up open communication and giving yourself credit for the work you are doing to support your child.

How to Help Young People Take More Risks” – TEDx Talks YouTube Channel

In this video, speaker and leadership consultant Terri-Ann Richards talks about how to support children to believe in themselves and their potential. She shares her experiences as a teen with a mentor, and how the mentor gave her the opportunity to self-advocate. Throughout her talk, Richards shares tips on how you can support the children in your life, including positive modeling and supporting self-advocacy.

Building on this week’s Listen resource, this upcoming book by Brendan Mahan and Alex Hughes Capell expands on Mahan’s “Wall of Awful”, which is defined as an emotional barrier that can prevent you from initiating tasks and taking risks. Mahan and Capell share strategies to help navigate the Wall of Awful, including systems and habits to work through burnout.
