Summit Scoop June Newsletter

We can't wait to kick-off the 21st Annual Davidson Summit in just a few days! We have an update that has led to some changes to the event and some reminders for you! Safe travels to Reno!

HERE to watch the Summit Attendee Overview Webinar – helpful information to help you prepare for your trip to Reno, Nevada.

BUILDING UPDATE

The Davidson Annual Summit, as well as Davidson Summer Programs, all utilize the Davidson Academy building as our “home base” for programming and activities in the summer months. Unfortunately, a recent plumbing emergency resulted in significant flooding which affected many areas of the Davidson Academy building. In the days following this unexpected event, our team has been working around the clock on contingency plans given that the flood caused property damage which will require time and availability of specific resources to repair.

For this reason, the main hub of the Davidson Annual Summit has been moved to the Joe Crowley Student Union (JCSU). While we know many families traveling to Reno are excited to see and tour the Davidson Academy building, the unexpected flooding impacted our ability to use that space at this time.

Here are the main event changes to be aware of:

  1. Parking--- Parking will be more centralized to our event and will be available at the West Stadium Parking Complex. A Davidson Staff member will be at the 16th Street entrance, which is on the 3rd floor of the parking complex. Parking for this event is reserved for the 5th and 6th floors.
  2. Check in --- Once you’ve arrived to the Summit, we will be holding Check-In at front of the Joe Crowley Student Union. We will unfortunately be unable to host early check-in on Thursday, June 22nd. Check in will be on Friday, June 23rd from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  3. Friday activities – Many of Friday’s activities are social and informational in nature. Most of our activities, including our exhibitor hall, will be located in the Joe Crowley Student Union.

All of these changes will be reflected in the Information Booklet that you will receive upon check-in. Our team plans all year long to host this huge event for our Davidson families. We understand this change is last-minute and unexpected, as it has been for our team as well and we’ve been working to preserve as many of the planned elements of the Summit as we can. In our 21 years of hosting these Summits, also formerly known as Gatherings, we know that what makes this event special is not where our Davidson community comes together, but the people who are here to share in these moments and create lasting memories and connections.

INFORMATION BOOKLET
To help you navigate the weekend, your most helpful tool will be the Information Booklet that you receive upon check-in. This has been updated to reflect the changes in our new event hub, the Joe Crowley Student Union. In the booklet you will find the Summit Schedule which outlines what, when, and where various activities and sessions are located. The University’s campus continues to grow each year and with that comes a lot of construction! Color coded maps will be included.

DINING
A variety of restaurants are located on or around the University campus. We have these dining options highlighted in the booklet. Davidson Academy parents will also be hosting a refreshment table inside the Joe Crowley Student Union with beverages and snacks for sale. All proceeds benefit the educational opportunities fund at the Academy.

WEATHER
Expect sunny skies and HOT weather while you are here in Reno! Don't forget to bring sunscreen, a water bottle, comfortable walking shoes, and a light jacket for the cooler (A/C) rooms. Each year we are surprised by random rainstorms, please plan accordingly and don’t forget to bring jacket just in case!

MAKING CONNECTIONS
Don’t forget, a main attribute of the Davidson Summit weekend is connecting with our Davidson families.
