Our weekly Community Board provides a short list of non-Davidson opportunities that might benefit your Young Scholar family, such as gifted programs, engaging events, and great resources for bright families. Here are the latest opportunities in this week's edition of the Community Board. You are always welcome to suggest a program or highlight other resources as well! For Young Scholar or Davidson-specific events, check out our Upcoming Events.

Gifted and Thriving: Gift-a-Palooza 2025

M-F Homerooms for Like-Minded Peers

DYS morning homerooms address social and emotional needs, creative problem solving, and effective task management in a friendly setting. Michelle Ptacek, a certified talented and gifted teacher and current doctoral student, provides M-F mini-lessons throughout the school year addressing key topics relevant to students in the Young Scholars program (ages 8-12: flexible age range depending on interest and cohort dynamics). Michelle hopes to keep the homerooms between 4-7 students in each time slot (8:30amCST currently has the most room). If you have multiple children, please fill out the form one time for each student. National Math Camps: Two New Residential Programs for Mathematically Talented Students National Math Camps is launching two new residential programs for mathematically talented students aged 11-14, offering an immersive experience that combines advanced mathematical exploration with engaging recreational activities.

Camp Conway

Located at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California, Camp Conway provides an iconic setting for mathematical learning. Campers will have access to private dormitory housing and community spaces at adjacent Scripps College, voted #1 best campus living in the U.S. by Princeton Review. The southern California weather offers plenty of outdoor learning and recreation opportunities in a wonderful academic setting.

  • Session 1: June 15 – 28, 2025
  • Session 2: June 29 – July 12, 2025

Camp Sierpiński

Nestled on a 23-acre campus in North Carolina’s renowned Research Triangle, Camp Sierpiński offers a secure and serene environment for intellectual pursuits. Students will live in private dormitories steps away from dedicated classrooms and community spaces, with ample recreational options available. This location fosters creativity and collaboration, making it the ideal setting for students to dive deep into advanced mathematical concepts.

  • Session 1: July 6 – 19, 2025
  • Session 2: July 20 – August 2, 2025

The National Math Camps Experience:

  • Advanced Curriculum: Campers will explore topics in advanced mathematics, engaging in hands-on activities and expert-led sessions that encourage deep problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • Immersive Programs: National Math Camps provide immersive summer enrichment opportunities that allow campers to experience the joys of mathematical exploration with equally enthusiastic learners in an environment that celebrates their curiosity and promotes friendship.
  • Expert Instruction: Our programs are led by professional mathematicians and educators passionate about inspiring the next generation of STEM leaders.
  • Supportive Community: Students will join a vibrant and supportive mathematical community, where they can learn from one another and build lasting friendships.
  • Balanced Experience: Beyond academics, campers participate in fun events and outdoor activities, fostering friendships and creating lifelong memories.

Application Details:

  • Eligibility: Designed for mathematically talented students aged 11-14, regardless of their grade level in school. We look at age as of June 1, 2025, to determine eligibility for summer 2025 camps.
  • Tuition: For Summer 2025, both Camp Conway and Camp Sierpiński are priced at $3,500 per two-week session, inclusive of tuition, room, and board. Additional fees may apply; please see specific camp pages for detailed information.
  • Financial Aid: National Math Camps is committed to making our summer camp experiences accessible to all qualified students. Financial aid is available based on need, and our application process is need-blind. Upon receipt of an offer of admission, families can apply by completing a short financial aid application.

Why You Feel Like You're Failing (And How to Stop) ”– How to ADHD YouTube Channel
In this video, host Jessica McCabe discusses what to do when you feel like you’re failing in life. She describes failing in life as moments when you aren’t getting things done in the ways that you used to, such as showing up late when you’re usually on time. McCabe demonstrates how reflecting on your current infrastructure and curating your habits to accommodate your brain can support you in getting back on track. While this video specifically discusses ADHD, we find that resources to support ADHD can also be helpful to consider when supporting gifted children.
