Wunder - An Online Community for Parents with Kids with Learning and Thinking Differences

Seventy million people in the United States have learning and thinking differences, like dyslexia and ADHD. But the world isn’t set up for them to thrive. We’re working to change that by raising awareness and providing resources to help people with differences reach their potential. Understood is a nonprofit dedicated to shaping the world for difference. We provide resources and support so people who learn and think differently can thrive — in school, at work, and throughout life. Wunder is the Understood.org's online community. Chess Mentorship Opportunity for Young Scholars
As many of you know, we have been incredibly lucky to be working with Chess Grandmaster Ronen Har-Zvi over the past several years as he has been facilitating online Chess Seminars and mentoring Young Scholars in chess. The programs have been incredibly successful and have given many Young Scholars the opportunity to develop their chess talent with a Grandmaster.

The chess mentorship is now also available for beginners! As such, if your child is a beginner without prior serious chess experience, kindly mention the basics you feel will be useful for the mentorship.

  • Applications are due June 30, 2024
  • Ronen will also attend the Davidson Summit holding several long simul events from Friday, June 21st through Sunday, June 23rd for participants
  • Ronen will consider all applications over the coming weeks and will let you know if your Young Scholar has been accepted

Nature Journaling - John Muir Laws: Free Online Lessons

A world of infinite beauty and discovery waits just beyond the point where we usually stop paying attention. Nature offers us peace, a rich and meaningful place to learn. There is no computer program that can replicate the richness of seeing a flower up close, the intrigue of geeking out with bugs, or the calm of laying on your back and watching clouds. The key to developing a closer connection with nature is deliberately enhancing your powers of observation and wonder. Learn how the methods of a field naturalist will help you notice more, remember what you discovered, and be actively curious. A nature journal is a lens that focuses our attention and crystalizes our observations, thoughts, and experiences. The system is creative, rigorous, and playful, easy to begin and learn, and will grow and mature over a lifetime. This site is a resource of tools for your journey. Start now: you can do this, and the world is waiting. Learn More!

How to ADHD with Jessica McCabe” –Neuroversity Podcast
In this episode, host Jessica Kidwell invites author and creator of the “How to ADHD” YouTube Channel Jessica McCabe to discuss ADHD. McCabe shares her story from when she was formally diagnosed with ADHD 20 years ago to creating her channel and the lessons she has learned in between. McCabe and Kidwell dive into common topics around ADHD, including time blindness, emotional regulation, expectations, and how ADHD may present differently in girls than it typically does in boys. As they share tips for navigating these topics, they emphasize the importance of supporting the people in your life with ADHD to see their diagnosis as a positive and unique thing about themselves and their profile.

Every Kid Needs a Champion”– TED Talks YouTube Channel
In this short talk, educator Rita Pierson emphasizes the importance of human connection in education. In her 40 years of teaching, Pierson explored different ways of connecting with her students to foster engagement in her classroom, such as reframing her grading system and being honest with her students about mistakes she made when teaching lessons. She encourages teachers – and any other adult who plays a role in a child’s life—to have honest and real connections with children in order to have a positive, lasting impact on them.
